I’m a sucker for a delicious restaurant with a discount code. @eatbig sent out a $15 discount for their restaurants and one of my uses for it was an amazing dinner at @soba_pgh. This restaurant in Shadyside has a wide range of different Asian cuisines. We started with Chicken Bao Buns with Korean Fried Chicken and Bulgogi Flank Steak Maki. We also got some cocktails featuring flavors with an Asian influence like the Yuzu Shiso Penicillin. Our main courses were the spicy Korean-Style Miso Halibut which I really loved the pieces of pork belly and the Duck Fried Rice loaded with duck breast and thigh. Soba was great meal and I should eat here again soon.

#AD The holidays can be a lot. It has taken me way too long to eat at @sojupgh. I have eaten food at events from this Korean establishment for years but finally made it in for dinner. Everything was fantastic. We started with the Killer Tofu fried tofu tossed in a soy pineapple glaze and the Korean poutine made with curry gravy, tofu crumbles, and green onions. I got the Korean BBQ Combination plate for dinner which has Beef Bulgogi, Kalbi Beef Short Ribs, and Dwaejibulgogi pork, served with rice. I loved the flavors of all three. My friend got the BiBimBap, which looked amazing. I got a couple of tasty soju cocktails with dinner. The first was made with Lapsang giving it a smoky flavor. The second was made with lavender and lemongrass making it very refreshing. Hopefully, I won’t wait for years again to go to Soju again.

Another week and another concert by another band I

Another week and another concert by another band I discovered in my formative years...in the 90s. @bush put on an amazing show at @stageae. Back in a time when people had to listen to the radio and watch MTV to discover new music, massive songs like Glycerin and Comedown were constantly playing. Over the years as I finally got some of their CDs like Sixteen Stone, Razorblade Suitcase and The Science of Things, they were regularly in my Discman. Now I get to see all these bands I fell in love with in the 90s and 2000s, just 25+ years later. Seeing them tonight, for the second time, was like a live performance of their albums. They were so tight. I look forward to seeing them again next time they come through Pittsburgh.

My Favorite Holiday Bars in Pittsburgh are @miracl

My Favorite Holiday Bars in Pittsburgh are @miraclepgh and @sippinsantapgh. New this year is Sippin’ Santa from the team behind Miracle. This is a Christmas Tiki bar located on Wood Street with tropical-themed décor and drinks. The vibe is Santa on a tropical vacation. The cocktails are more tropical too and they are served in glasses shaped like beach vacation santa, mersanta, like a mermaid, and a shark. I got the Jungle Bird made with bourbon, pineapple run, Campari, lime, pineapple and jungle mix, and the Sharky’s First Christmas made with vodka, aquavit, melon and walnut liqueurs, lime and pineapple juice.
Then there is the yearly favorite Miracle. One of the original Christmas bars, it is incredibly festive. They have lots of crazy Christmas décor on the walls and they are the only ones with a Hanukkah wall. This year there is a Christmas Sweater wall and it is laid out a little differently so it felt lik there was more space to move around. The cocktails are some of the best too. The Yippie Ki Yay Mother F…. and Snowball Old Fashioned are some of my favorites and Rudolph’s Replacement which is new this year was a tasty coffee cocktail.
Another reason why these two Holiday Bars are the best is that a large portion of proceeds are donated to local charities. Each year they partner with different charities that either have a personal connection to the members of the Miracle team or make a significant impact in Pittsburgh. As always, remember don’t be a grinch at these bars. And don’t steal the glassware. Most of it can be purchased. They have to spend a lot on these glasses and if you steal them then others do not get to enjoy drinks in them. Also if you buy one you get a nice clean glass.

Thanks to @unionforge Vodka, I went on an awesome

Thanks to @unionforge Vodka, I went on an awesome tour of the @penguins facilities at @ppgpaintsarena. The Pennsylvania-based Union Forge Vodka is the official vodka of the Penguins. There are cocktails made with Union Forge Vodka available in multiple places in PPG Paints Arena during games and events. We celebrated this partnership by having breakfast in Suite 66 by the Penguins locker room. This party suite is decorated with Mario Lemieux memorabilia and you can watch the team leave the locker room to head to the ice. We began our tour in the Penguins dining room This space is meant for the team to be able to eat, socialize and discuss their performance. The dining room has replica Stanley Cups, photos of the team in number order and team photos for every year. Then we got to see the equipment rooms and training rooms. It was impressive to see how the work on sticks and skates. Next, we went into the locker room, which I can’t share much of it since it’s their personal space. The most interesting parts are that it is designed to look like old Mellon Arena and the locker room at PPG Paints Arena is identical to the one at the training facility in Cranberry. We finished the tour seeing the ice from the bench and got photos with Iceburgh. I highly recommend this tour if you get the chance and I’m so happy Union Forge Vodka invited me to join on their celebration.

I visited @coffeetreepgh to preview their holiday collection. Every year they have a new holiday themed cup, offer gift baskets for purchase, and decorate the stores for the holidays. Coffee Tree Roasters works with specialty vendors locally and around the world to supply their coffee and other treats. I got to try some of their new Cup of Excellence featuring coffee from Thailand which they are one of the only retailers in the USA. I was also a big fan of the Giorgio Biscotti which was great for dipping in my very chocolatey hot chocolate and later my oat milk latte. Coffee Tree Roasters has many types of gift baskets for the holiday season for the coffee or tea lover. It was great to hang out with some other foodies, take fun photos and try some delicious coffee and treats.

Wigle Wonderland is a Holiday Popup in the Strip at the @wiglewhiskey Distillery. They decorated the tour tasting room with holiday lights, snowflakes, TV fireplace, and a tree. I liked the decorations were simple and tasteful. Wigle focused a lot on making quality holiday cocktails and shots. My first drink was the Draft Nitro Espresso Martini which you can add flavor shots and edible garnish. I also got the Regifted Old Fashioned which was quite good. If you’re looking for a classy holiday popup with great cocktails, check out Wigle Wonderland.

@barcadia.pgh in Market Square has a new holiday p

@barcadia.pgh in Market Square has a new holiday popup this year with their Home Alone themed bar. They went all out with decorations with references from the first two Home Alone movies. They have many movie themed cocktails for your enjoyment. They also have several photo opportunity spots like one with the pigeon lady. Make sure to also head back to the Speakeasy where it’s decorated like the Plaza Hotel from Home Alone 2. This is the classier looking section of the popup with more elevated cocktails. I recommend giving the speakeasy bar a visit.
