A quick recap from a weekend in Washington DC. I s A quick recap from a weekend in Washington DC. I stayed at @watergatehotel. I did some exploring of Alexandria. I went to the @airandspacemuseum, @americanart, and @smithsoniannpg. I saw the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and the blue/green Reflecting Pool. I ate some really good meals. It has been almost a decade since I was last in DC. Being back now, there's so much to do and eat I need a lot more time there next time.
I've totally been sleeping on @Balvanerapgh. I fin I've totally been sleeping on @Balvanerapgh. I finally had dinner there last week with friends. It is easily one of my favorite meals I've eaten this year. The highlights are definitely the steaks and the sausages. I got the Ancho Ribeye and the Chorizo Especial. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and so tender. The sausages were loaded with flavor and anlittle spicy. I'm definitely going to have to do more dinners at Balvanera. I finally went camping. I have had to cancel and r I finally went camping. I have had to cancel and reschedule camping trips the last few years. I saw an opportunity to go camping at Punderson State Park in Ohio for two nights before driving to Cleveland to attend a Yankees vs Guardians game. I spent the two days hiking, cooking over a fire, relaxing, and sleeping in a tent. Here's the good. I hiked about 4-5 miles. I ate a lot of meals with pork loin because I got an amazing deal on it. I was also gifted by @WigleWhiskey their new canned craft cocktails and brought them with me to drink while relaxing. I listened to about half the audiobook I started before the trip. Here's the bad. It was so hot out. I was so sweaty and dehydrated after my hike. There were so many bugs that my legs were covered in bug bites, even with bug spray. The lake had so much algae that I skipped cooling down by going for a swim. I was invited to attend @babesburgh Bash, Pittsbur I was invited to attend @babesburgh Bash, Pittsburgh’s only festival for women. Babesburgh is an organization where Pittsburgh women can go for fun events & unique experiences. This festival was created to celebrate women, featuring over 25 local craft beverage tastings, over 90 local woman-owned vendors, artists, and community groups, free fitness and wellness classes, and so much more. I had a great day at Babesburgh Bash enjoying beers and celebrating women, and I would gladly attend again next year.
I was invited to @christianklaywinery and @ridgeru I was invited to @christianklaywinery and @ridgerunner_distillery to spend a weekend tasting all their wines and spirits, experience a weekend of activities around the winery, and have a relaxing weekend away from the city. Located in Chalkhill in the Pennsylvania Laurel Highlands, Christian Klay Winery is a second-generation, family owned winery, sitting on a 100 acre property with multiple vineyards, orchards, fields and event spaces. They feature a wide variety of wines made mostly from grapes grown on the property and fruit from local farms. Ridge Runner Distillery, a passion project of Christian to make a variety of spirits like vodka, gin, whiskey and moonshine using locally grown grains, fruits and botanicals, and local honey. The whiskey is aged in Pennsylvania oak barrels. During this weekend, they also had a small vendor market, live music, a few hayrides around the property and food trucks. I also stayed in one of their weekend rental properties near the winery, and they are a Harvest Host for RVs and campers. This weekend I was invited to the @goodtastepgh Pi This weekend I was invited to the @goodtastepgh Pizza Fest at @hazelwoodbrewhouse! Each year this event brought together seven local pizzerias at a brewery for a sampling of great pizza and beer. I always enjoy this event and look forward to it every year. Even though there's lots of good pizza there, my favorite a second year in a row was from @yellowbridgebrewing. There's always a great sausage sandwich too from @grecoandsonsinc to show off quality pizza toppings.
I just spent three days in Ohio camping and then w I just spent three days in Ohio camping and then watching the Yankees beat the Guardians. I grew up a Yankees fan and when they come to Cleveland I usually drive in for one game. I made a several day trip of it, first camping for two nights in Punderson State Park just south of Cleveland and then spending the afternoon at Progressive Field before coming back to Pittsburgh. Great things about this trip: - Being in Nature - Unwinding reducing screen time - Getting Exercise - Using my camping gear - Seeing a Yankees win Not so great things about this trip: - Sunburn - Lots of bug bites - The lake at the park looking kinda disgusting - I-79 being closed for construction with no warning I'd love to camp more this year, just maybe not the park again #travelgram #ohio #baseball #camping
I was invited again to attend @gilfillanfarm Barny I was invited again to attend @gilfillanfarm Barnyard Beer Benefit in Upper St Clair. This is probably the most under the radar beer and food festival in the Pittsburgh area. This is their annual fundraiser, which happens in May, with proceeds going toward preserving and restoring Gilfillan Farm, a registered national historic place. Learn more about the farm on their website. Through fundraising like the Barnyard Beer Benefit, Gilfillan Farm plans to restore the farmland, the orchards, and the buildings to the Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. I was invited to a preview of this year’s Pittsbur I was invited to a preview of this year’s Pittsburgh @culturaltrust Three Rivers Arts Festival and the new Arts Landing. The arts fest will take place over two weekends in 2026, June 5-7 and June 11-14, with many artists selling their work and performances taking place all day. I was excited to see the new Arts Landing before its official grand opening this weekend. Arts Landing has a brand new permanent stage that they will use for concerts downtown, and all the playgrounds and green space. We also got to see a preview of @squonk_official new show, Joy Machine. I’m really excited for Arts Fest this year and can’t wait to see all that comes to Arts Landing. I’m doing a different kind of #tbt today. Recently I’m doing a different kind of #tbt today. Recently, I took out my 20 year old point and shoot camera I bought in 2006 when I was in college to see what it would be like to make a video for social media with it now. I took it with me to Shore Thing by @riverlifepgh in the #Pittsburgh North Shore. The quality of my video and my photos left something to be desired. Everything came out grainy, a little fuzzy, and the colors were muted or washed out. The videos were so low resolution compared to what we are used to today. Shore Thing is a floating platform with a bar featuring @brewgentlemen beers and food items. The platform has lots of places to hang out in the sun along the river. They also added this year a cool artsy canopy made of recycled items. 📍Shore Thing is located between the Roberto Clemente Bridge and the Andy Warhol Bridge on the North Shore Should I make more videos with my old camera, or should I stick to my nice, modern cameras?

Each June, Kennywood has an international food festival set up around the Kennywood Lagoon. I love this event because I get to eat a lot of food not traditionally served at an amusement park. This year, there were eight stations featuring chef-inspired tastings. With my tasting card in hand, I traveled to several countries, trying different bites. This year’s menu is inspired by Cuba, Greece, France, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Germany, and South Korea. Each booth usually has three different food items, and beers or signature beverages. Each item and be purchased with a punch on your tasting card or purchased à la carte. The tasting cards are an add-on to the park admission and can be purchased in 8, 12, or, for passholders, 15 bites. Over the weekend, I decided to smoke a couple of r Over the weekend, I decided to smoke a couple of racks of St Louis style ribs. I don't use my smoker often, but I'm trying to more again as an excuse to buy a better one at the end of the season. I smoked these with pecan wood at about 240°F for 4.5 hours, wrapped for half of that. They turned out juicy and fall off the bone. #homecooking #smokedmeats #ribs #pittsburgh #barbecue

This rental in Hidden Valley was a comfortable place for me to unwind. turnovi has many rentals of all sizes, all over the Laurel Highlands. This one was massive with so many bedrooms with enough space to sleep an extended family or many friends looking to go on a great skiing or hiking weekend. I've enjoyed many Hazedelic Juice Grenade Hazy IPAs and specialty imperial stouts there over the years. I've attended so many Fire Fests, anniversary parties, Apres Ski and PSU game watches. I've eaten many a food truck meal here. I've been so happy to see their expansion over the years to Command and Beer Market and Beer Crib. They have only been open a month but I think they are already one of the best pizza places in Pittsburgh. Their full-size pizzas are 12x12, but these minis are 6x6. They’re a great option for a personal pizza or a hearty slice on the go. The four menu pizzas are Sicilian Margarita, Sicilian Sweet & Spicy, Sicilian White and Sicilian Vodka. I was invited to try out @krunchybird, the new Kor I was invited to try out @krunchybird, the new Korean-Style fried chicken place in Castle Shannon in the Pittsburgh South Hills. They feature a menu of bone in fried chicken, wings, boneless wings, chicken sandwiches, fried rice and other appetizers. I got to try almost everything on the menu. My favorites were the fried chicken sandwich and the bone-in chicken with the sweet heat sauce.
