Burgatory asked me to come in for burgers and milk

Burgatory asked me to come in for burgers and milkshakes. I've always like @burgatorybar for their quality burger creations. This time we started with the Pale Ale Onion Rings which are massive, paired with great dipping sauces and so good. I ordered the Meat Your Maker made with Dry Ages Wagyu Beef with sweet onion crust, aged gruyere cheese, roasted tomatoes, organic field greens, and truffled shallot aioli. This burger is amazing and a delicious combination of flavors. My party also had an Elk Gone Wild and a pretty impressive Custom Creation. We finished off the dinner with a Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookie Milkshake. This meal was so good and I probably need to eat a Burgatory a little more often.

I was at @lapalapapgh Mexican restaurant for dinner to try out some exciting items on their menu. La Palapa offers a lot of items you might not see at many Mexican restaurants. We started our dinner with chips and flour chicharrones, which are a common street snack in Mexico. We then sample tamales and Chiles rellenos. Both delicious and smothered in mole and green sauce. Next were the Incredible items you don't see everywhere like slow roasted lamb shank, pork chops and garlic sauce, beef tongue, and fajitas with soy chorizo. My favorite was the lamb shank which was so tender and infused with flavor from the slow roasting. La Palapa also serves fantastic cocktails and they are a mezcal bar. Give them a visit for a great Mexican meal

Spent the day at @gristhouse for their Brunch at the Ski Lodge. I was clearly not dressed for the occasion but had a great time drinking the beers rewlsed today like the Eggstraterrestrial barrel aged stout and French Toast Revolution breakfast sour. I was there way longer than expected and ended up with breakfast from @bluesparrowpgh and a late lunch from @taqueriapastorcitopgh.

I'm asked all the time what is my favorite meal in Pittsburgh. The answer is it's at Chinatown Inn downtown. This Chinese restaurant is the last remaining building of Pittsburgh's former Chinatown. I regularly get the General Tso Chicken and an egg roll. I've been eating here for 15 years. It's the best. This is one dish I can confidently say if you disagree with me you are wrong. I've gotten many other dishes here over the years and they've always been great. They are a fantastic classic American Chinese Restaurant. The owners also have a celebrity in the family and I recommend visiting the restaurant for a meal and to see the signed memorabilia to find out who it is.

I can't believe I forgot to post this video from my visit to @ribroompgh like 2 months ago. We got the Baked Alaska the last time and it was such a good dessert. A Baked Alaska is an ice cream and cake dessert covered in meringue. The meringue is then lit on fire with high proof liquor so the meringue caramelizes and the ice cream stays cold. Rib Room uses vanilla pistachio and cherry ice cream on top of a chocolate tort. This was a tasty and sweet way to finish our meal.

Congrats to @backalleybrewing for opening their brewery and taproom in Dormont. After years of home brewing, they decided to open a brewery. They took over a great old building on West Liberty. Back Alley did only can sales only for a bit while working on building out the taproom portion of the building. Finally, they were able to open their taproom. They already have a selection of craft beers available and plan to have food trucks and food popups regularly. I had a few at one of their soft openings and I was very happy with them. I’m so excited to have some great locally made craft beer walking distance to my house. Check them out!

I attended @goodtastepgh Bake It! baking expo. This afternoon event featured local bakers sampling and selling their baked goods and suppliers selling baking supplies. There were so many breads and desserts that I tried and I met so many great people finally in person. I brought home some biscotti, macarons, seasoning salt and a mini torch. The day also featured many great baking demos. I watched Nick Mancini teach about making Mancini’s Bread dough and how to make their famous twist bread. I also watched @DougCooking demo Baking in the Air Fryer. This is now a go to event for me every year.

I attended the @visitpittsburgh preview of the @craftbeverage Expo coming to Pittsburgh at the end of March. The preview was at @klvncoffeelab and @goodlandercocktails. The Craft Beverage Expo recognizes Pittsburgh’s strong heritage and continued large presence in the craft beverage industry. They will have speakers from the craft beverage industry and an expo with suppliers for craft beverage producers. Pittsburgh restaurants will feature beverages as part of Craft Beverage Excellence week. I’m most excited for the Craft Beverage Experience which is an open to the public ticketed tasting event featuring local batch craft beverages. Gussy’s Bagels and Pizza invited me in for a piz

Gussy’s Bagels and Pizza invited me in for a pizza making and tasting session. @gussysbagels opened up in Oakland last year making bagels and deli sandwiches. Gussy’s just started making giant NY style pizzas using a variation of their dough and quality basic ingredients. This wasn’t my first time in a pizza shop kitchen so my pizza turned out pretty great, but I need more practice sliding the pizza into the oven so it stays round. I seem to always get my pizza stuck on the peel. Gussy’s also likes to cut XL slices that are great for folding. On first bite, Gussy’s pizza provided me one of my best and sexiest cheese pulls. It tasted great and immediately became one of my favorite pizzas in Pittsburgh that I’ll have to get again soon.
