One more @alexeatstoomuch 9th Anniversary post as a flashback through the years and an little intro for newbies. I put together a little compilation of highlights and other important stuff.

Time flies as I'm eating my way through Pittsburgh and traveling around to experience attractions and foods beyond Pittsburgh. This past year, you've seen me quit my job and take Alex Eats Too Much full time, I partnered on the BaconBurgh event. I’m doing a lot more travel and showing off lots of great meals and awesome activities. I have even more amazing meals, events and travel to come this year.

I'm still so thankful for all of you who have decided to follow me. Some of you are still here from the beginning and I have loved interacting and eating with so many of you. Many of you might have just discovered my eating adventure and I hope to run into some day. Many of you have supported this sometimes crazy endeavour in one way or another, whether it was sharing my page, feeding me, inviting me to events or just following along. I appreciate the continued support. Thank you so much! Here's to another year of eating good food!

I have not done an intro post since literally this anniversary post last year. Here's some about me!

I'm Alex. I'm in my late 30s and single. I moved to Pittsburgh 17 years ago for work after finishing college at Penn State. I've always been known for eating too much. When I'm not eating, I'm usually watching movies or TV, going to concerts, dreaming about cars I can't afford, quoting The Simpsons and getting strange looks, and in warmer months watching the Pirates lose and spending some time outdoors hiking and camping. Also, I'm pretty internet stalkable with minimal effort.

I can't believe I've been posting to this account for almost a decade. I've tried so much delicious food, attended amazing events, traveled to fantastic places, and met awesome people. Thank you to everyone who has been following on this adventure whether you just found me or you're an OG. I'm looking forward to many more years of eating too much.

Another big @foofighters stadium show! I went out

Another big @foofighters stadium show! I went out to Cleveland with my brother for Foo Fighters, @queensofthestoneage, and @mannequinpussy at @huntingtonbankfield. Foo Fighters are one of those bands that are meant to play big stadium shows. They tore through 25 songs, mostly the hits and played for almost 3 hours. I've seen them only in big stadiums. Queens of the Stone Age are also one of my favorite bands and it was fun seeing them play a tight hour as an opener instead of a headliner. It was my 4th time seeing both bands and I'd gladly see either again in a heartbeat.

These bacon covered fries are just as good as they look. @streetfries4ever just opened a store in the Pittsburgh Southside to go along with their food truck. I needed to go check it out to congratulate them on the new space. I’m also excited the Street Fries truck will be returning to @baconburghfest festival on Sunday, August 30 at Southside Works. Street Fries brings fresh-cut loaded fries to the city with a local and international spin. They offer giant servings of fries meant for sharing, topped with many different sauces and proteins like bacon. I got two half sizes so I could try the BBQ Bacon Ranch Fries and the Chicken Bacon Ranch Fries. I loved the BBQ Bacon Ranch for its sweet and smokey flavor and lots of bacon. Check out Street Fries at their new Southside location, at their food truck, and see them at Bacon Burgh!

If you attend @barrelandflow Fest, it’s pretty obvious why it keeps getting voted America’s favorite brew festival, and it’s definitely my favorite too. Barrel & Flow Fest just happened again in Pittsburgh. The mission of Barrel and Flow is to create an inclusive festival celebrating Black-owned breweries and distilleries, Black artists, and Black-owned small businesses. Barrel and Flow Fest is always an amazing time and congrats to the Barrel and Flow team for pulling off another great festival.

While I was in Virginia for @tbexevents North America, I had the opportunity to do a tour of three farms in @visithanoverva, Virginia. I got to visit three farms in Hanover County, Agriberry Farm and CSA, Freckled Flower Farm and Thistledew Fold Farm, providing unique opportunities or experiences to their customers and communities. @agriberryfarm and CSA is a second generation family owned farm that grows raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries to sell in farmer’s markets around the DMV area and in their half-season and full season CSA. @thefreckledflowerfarm is a fresh cut flower farm that is a hub for community gathering and creativity. @thistledewfold Farm gives people the opportunity to get up close to a cow, especially if they have never been close to one before.

Sheetz is a must stop location for me on road trips for gas, MTO food and the best restrooms. I’ve made many videos with Sheetz before. So when they asked if I wanted a bobblehead, I immediately said yes. You can get one too. These limited edition Sheetz x @pittsburghpirates City Connect Jersey Bobbleheads will be available on August 5 at participating Sheetz locations as part of the Sh’tacked Bundle. This is becoming a favorite place for me to get handmade dumplings and noodles in the city. We did a spread of all kinds of dumplings and two different types of noodles. This place is so special because the dumplings come in amazing flavors, the spice level is high but tasty, and the people who own and run it are some of the nicest people I have met in this industry.

A while back, I visited the McDonald’s Big Mac Mus

A while back, I visited the McDonald’s Big Mac Museum in North Huntingdon. August 2 is International Big Mac Day. That day is Big Mac creator Jim Delligatti’s birthday. Allegheny County also declared it Big Mac Day. This was my first time there, and I was so excited to see the giant Big Mac, learn about the creator of the Big Mac and its history, and see lots of great Big Mac memorabilia. Advertising memorabilia is a guilty pleasure of mine. Jim created the Big Mac in Uniontown in 1967 and quickly expanded it to McDonald’s nationwide in 1968.
I also learned how to make the Big Mac from Jim’s son Michael. The Big Mac still consists of the same ingredients of two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame seed bun. After watching, it was my turn to build my own Big Mac. Although it seems easy, it’s still a talent to be able to make one fast and accurately. looks great and tasted great too.

@7springspa Resort in the Pennsylvania Laurel Highlands #hosted me and gave me an All-Day Adventure Pass to do some of their fun summer activities. Since I don’t ski, I’m used to just eating my way around Seven Springs, like enjoying a massive burger at the Bavarian Lodge or several plates at the breakfast buffet at the Slopeside restaurant. The All-Day Adventure Pass includes 13 summer activities. During my day there, I played mini-golf, took a Scenic Chairlift Ride, and sped down the mountain on the Alpine Slide. Seven Springs All-Day Adventure Passes are available for purchase online and on -site. Thank you to Seven Springs and @go_laurelhighlands for a day of Summer fun at Seven Springs.

I ate at Penn Ave Pizza & Steaks (@eatpaps) on the Bloomfield-Lawrenceville border and this easily goes near the top of my list for NY Style Pizza in Pittsburgh and possibly the best cheesesteak in Pittsburgh. PAPS makes their 18-inch NY Style pizza with 48-hour fermented dough and a robust tomato sauce with lots of oregano. The cheesesteak was amazing with 100% ribeye and Cooper Sharp cheese. I know I’ll be eating at PAPS again.

I was invited by @go_laurelhighlands to celebrate Party at the Lake, the 50th Birthday or the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail extends 70 miles from Ohiopyle State Park to the Conemaugh Gorge near Johnstown. The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail is well maintained and marked with frequent blazes to make sure you are still on trail. There are many scenic spots on the trail with amazing views. The trail also has shelters for backpackers to sleep along the way. The full trail is considered challenging, but some sections are explorable by beginners for day hikes. If you want to learn more about hiking the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, check out the Go Laurel Highlands or the Pennsylvania DCNR websites.

Party at the Lake was at @7springspa, and it had to move inside due to severe weather. At the party, we got to speak with different supporters of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. There are organizations there to encourage visiting and hiking the trail, discussing how to maintain the trail and shuttle services that will help you get back to your car if you’re hiking an extended portion.

And remember, if you are hiking any trail, to leave no trace by taking anything you pack in out with you.

I was finally in town long enough to make it to my first @riverhoundssc game of the season at @fnbstadiumpgh. These games are a lot of fun. It's a smaller but energetic crowd. Games are less than 2 hrs. There's usually a lot of action the whole time. Unfortunately, this game didn't go our way,

I had brunch this afternoon with Lt Gov @austindav

I had brunch this afternoon with Lt Gov @austindavispa and other local Pittsburgh creators at @ritualhousepgh. The Shapiro Davis campaign is kicking off A Weekend of Action this weekend as it also marks 100 days until the election on Sunday. Lt Gov Davis will be visiting communities throughout Central and Southwestern Pennsylvania this weekend to meet voters.

Lt Gov Davis is from Allegheny County and knows what it is like to be part of this community. He is the son of a bus driver and hair dresser. He's a first generation college graduate. He got into politics after violence impacted his community. He is a family man. He knows Pittsburgh. I'm glad to have gotten the opportunity to meet with him and hear how he and Gov Shapiro still have work they want to accomplish.

I've never been quiet about the fact I'm a Democrat and encourage people to vote Democrat, especially people who are upset about the direction of things in Washington the last couple of years. Pennsylvania has an opportunity this November to push forward by reelecting Shapiro & Davis, keeping the State House with a Democratic majority, and flipping seats in the State Senate to make it a Democratic majority. What might this mean to you? Democrat control in all three will likely lead to Pennsylvania minimum wage finally increasing, continued family and childcare tax credits, protections for marginalized groups like the LBGTQ community, recreational marijuana, and more.

So yeah, expect to see more support from me for the @joshshapiropa @austindavispa campaign the next 3 months.

Here’s a little #TBT to @tusseymountain WingFest in @happyvalleypa, Pennsylvania, one Thursday in July 2025 and never posted about. Here is a super cut of me trying every wing and flavor. I had 22 wings in total. You can see my full Tussey Mountain WingFest experience video on my YouTube. Fast forward to 2026, Tussey Mountain is still doing WingFest on Thursdays during the summer. WingFest is a weekly event, weather permitting, with multiple chicken wing vendors and live music. Each week requires an admission ticket to attend, and then you buy strips of one dollar tickets to use to buy wings and drinks. The wings are one dollar each. Included in the admission ticket is live music performed by two bands, including many local Happy Valley favorites, and the ability to vote for your favorite wings of the evening. At the end of the summer, on the last week of WingFest, the winning wing vendors return to compete in the finals. You can learn more about Tussey Mountain WingFest on the Tussey Mountain Website.

I ate at @alewiferva when I was in Richmond for @tbexevents. I wanted to eat at a restaurant with inspired and innovative dishes and cocktails. Alewife features sustainable seafood sourced mostly from the waters in the Mid-Atlantic region where the restaurant is located. It was a delicious and different meal filled with lots of things I don’t normally get to eat, so I’m glad I was able to eat at Alewife.

The Ramen Burger at @bluesparrowpgh is one of my f

The Ramen Burger at @bluesparrowpgh is one of my favorite burgers in Pittsburgh, and it’s on their menu again for a limited time only. Blue Sparrow is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, and every month, they are bringing back a classic menu item. In the early days of @alexeatstoomuch and Blue Sparrow, I used to follow them around so I could get a ramen burger. This special version of it is their best. It’s an all beef burger made with bacon jam, pickled hibiscus onions, crispy cheddar, and a ramen bun. This is on the menu through July, and then it will make occasional popup appearances after that. The burger can be found for now at the @bluesparrowbus parked at @dancinggnome Beer.

#AD Here at Alex Eats Too Much, my credit card rewards helped me pay for my restaurant and travel experiences I’ve shared with all of you. Today, I’m partnering with @thepointsguy because there is a chance that credit card rewards, as we know them, could go away. There are bills in the Pennsylvania Legislature that could harm how you earn rewards on these credit cards, like cash back, points, and credits, and complicate how credit card transactions work overall. Keep listening and see the video description to learn more.

I know I don’t want to lose out on my credit card rewards. The Pennsylvania Legislature is considering House Bill (HB) 2090 and Senate Bill (SB) 1202, which would prohibit interchange on the sales tax portion of transactions paid by credit or debit card. Interchange is a fee paid by merchants, not customers, when you use a credit card.

You might be asking why this is a big deal. This could complicate how a credit card purchase can be made in Pennsylvania only.

An interchange fee is a global standard for all credit card transactions. Changing how an interchange fee can be applied to a purchase could mean:
• A purchase will take longer since it won’t be one quick charge
• Small businesses might have to make multiple transactions or not be able to accept credit cards anymore
• Credit card transactions in Pennsylvania will work differently than anywhere else in the world
• You may have to pay sales tax by cash or check

And now you are probably wondering how this impacts earning those credit card points you use for rewards? Credit Card companies use those interchange fees to fund the points programs.

Earning fewer points and rewards means:
• Less cash back on your purchases
• Longer to earn points toward travel rewards
• Fewer reward offerings

So if you don’t want an interruption in credit card purchases and earning points, tell your Pennsylvania state legislators to vote no on HB2090 and SB1202. Visit guardyourcard.com/pennsylvania-2 to learn more
