A visit to @happyvalleypa can be very activity fil A visit to @happyvalleypa can be very activity filled. If you’re able to wake up for brunch after being so busy, I partnered with Happy Valley Adventure Bureau to give you some ideas for brunch on your next visit to the area. #happyvalleypartner

Starting with a new one to me, @hublersburginn in Howard, PA is a Penn State area favorite. It is a historic restaurant, featuring a unique dining atmosphere and American cuisine. There is a large brunch menu featuring pancakes, waffles, French toast, steak & eggs and a large variety of brunch beverages. When I was there it was warm enough to sit outside, but they have a charming classic indoor space. Reservations are recommended.

A spot I have eaten at several times on my Happy Valley trips, @gigissoutherntable in State College, has become a go to restaurant for me. Gigi’s Southern Table brings elevated dishes with a southern flair and laid back ideals. Gigi’s has grown to be a local favorite with an ingredient-driven focus to their dishes to create a Field-to-Fork southern menu. Their brunch features bananas foster French toast, chicken & waffles and beignets.

A newer addition to the Happy Valley brunch scene, @flour_and_stone features a more casual intimate atmosphere with a Mediterranean and Italian-inspired field-to-fork menu. This is the sister restaurant of Happy Valley favorite Pine Grove Hall. Their brunch menu has elevated brunch dishes like seasonal French toast, empanadas Florentine, and an assortment of sandwiches.

Where are you thinking of eating brunch on your next visit to #happyvalleypa?

They are featuring special cocktails and food items incorporating holidays flavors like cranberry, stuffing and gingerbread. I even got in a little bit of duck pin bowling and saw I could use some practice. Shorty's Santa Shop will be there throughout the holidays.

I was invited to spend the morning trying the coffee, seeing how they are making these sandwiches and eating one. These sandwiches are made with fresh schiacciata bread, which is similar to focaccia. The sandwiches are massive. They are piled with meats like mortadella or prosciutto, cheese and veggies. I got their Chicken Parmesan one with spicy vodka sauce, pesto, fresh mozzarella, parmesan and basil. Mortadella starts serving every day at 11 AM until they run out. With how good these sandwiches are, they sell out quickly. Pre Amp Coffee Studio will have a new food concept every three months and you don’t want to miss this one. Over the summer, I partnered with @happyvalleypa A Over the summer, I partnered with @happyvalleypa Adventure Bureau to visit four of the seven farms on the Happy Valley Dairy Delight Trail. They worked with @happyvalleyagventures to feature these great dairy producers. Centre County, PA has plenty of rural landscapes with Amish communities and generational farms offering fresh milk, cheeses and ice creams.

@meyerdairy – Located just outside Downtown State College, Meyer Dairy had a constant stream of locals swapping out their empty glass milk bottles with fresh milk. I was there for to have ice cream for breakfast. They offer ice cream flights to be able to try at once several interesting flavors like Grapenut and Chocolate Marshmallow.

Nittany Valley Creamery – The Dairy Barn at Nittany Valley Creamery in Howard is an Amish-owned business offering over 20 ice cream flavors, fresh milk and cheese straight from the farm. They have a swing set to keep kids occupied while there are there. I also got to see some baby goats when I was there.

@gootessacheese – Located in Howard, this dairy features cave aged, handcrafted European-style cheeses and artisanal condiments. I got to see some of the equipment used for processing the cheese and then toured the caves. Depending on the type of cheese it would be in a different temperature and humidity-controlled room. I did a full tasting at Goot Essa pairing each delicious cheese with one of their artisanal condiments and can say these are perfect for your next charcuterie board.

Wasson Farm – This seasonal stand on the edge of State College is a popular local favorite serving ice cream flavors featuring in season produce.

Which Happy Valley dairy farm are you visiting? You can learn more about visiting these dairy farms and all the other farms in Happy Valley at Happy Valley Agventures. Plan the rest of your Happy Valley, PA visit at Happy Valley Adventure Bureau.

Earlier this fall, @gristhouse Command opened to m Earlier this fall, @gristhouse Command opened to much enthusiasm in Pittsburgh. They converted an old Nike missile site into a brewery and taproom. Grist House is one of my favorite breweries, and I was excited to visit a couple of times already. The renovation is amazing, with 3 outdoor decks to take in the amazing scenic views, a snack bar, event spaces, and 4x the brewing capacity from the original Millvale site. They repurposed a lot of the original signage, furniture, and doors throughout the brewery. The snack bar has burgers, dogs, fries, pickles, pretzels, and more. I know I’ll be spending a lot of time here in the future. Congrats to my friends at Grist House for opening Command and I can’t wait to spend more time there.
