I spent a fantastic weekend in @visitoconeesc for the 6th Annual @southerntravelersexplore Conference. This conference gave me a great opportunity to meet other amazing travel writers and content creators in a beautiful location filled with lakes and waterfalls and small town charm. I also learned so much about sharing travel experiences, blogging, content trends and monetization. I'm so grateful for the new friends and connections I made. I have so much to share from this trip and so much work I need to do to put everything I learned into practice.

One of my favorite downtown Pittsburgh restaurants has reopened as @meetatbaebaes Bae Bae’s Bar and Supper Club. Formerly Bae Bae’s Kitchen, this new iteration opens late and stays open even later, making it a late-night spot for food, drinks and good times. Downtown seriously lacks late night food, so I’m very excited to have a new place that I know has great food. I went to their reopening celebration, where they showed off their new vibe and tried out several small bites and cocktails on the launch menu. They also plan on regularly having DJs and want to add live music and other performances. I’m looking forward to spending evenings at Bae Bae’s soon.

I’m so excited @nanxiangsoupdumplings is finally open in Pittsburgh’s Southside Works. I was there for its friends and family and ordered a bunch of food. Known for its soup dumplings, this restaurant originated in Flushing Queens in New York and is now opening locations around the northeast. My favorites were the truffle and pork soup dumplings and the pan-fried pork buns.

I was invited to an amazing dinner by @private_chef_frank, organized by @_jessies_eddies_ and hosted by Rachel of @opalrosemcmurray. Chef Frank is a local private chef who can be hired for dinners for as few as two people and as many as a small event. He prepared a six-course showcase of an incredible variety of dishes he can prepare for dinner parties. I had such a great time getting to experience this dinner party with other Pittsburgh foodies I’ve gotten close to and some new friends. Learn more about Private Chef Frank on his website. I was invited to try the new brunch at @butlerstreetderby in Lawrenceville. They have a menu of traditional and elevated brunch items and great cocktails to match. I was with a group of other foodies, so we passed around and shared most of the food we ordered to get a taste of everything. We enjoyed our brunch at Butler Street Derby and had a great time, too.

On my weekend in the @go_laurelhighlands, I ate with the group at @hillbillysgrubnpub in Donegal. Located right off the Turnpike, this is a great option for a country style meal after a day of skiing or hiking. They are a rural themed restaurant featuring savory meals and good times. After dinner, or if you’re looking for a night out, head upstairs to the bar where they have TVs, self-service beer taps, and occasional live music. You can also be a VIP, a Very Important Hillbilly, and reserve a special area of the bar right by the stage with a shot pouring goat to really step up your Hillbilly experience.

A couple of weeks back I attend the @ocapittsburgh

A couple of weeks back I attend the @ocapittsburgh Lunar New Year Gala at @szechuanspicepittsburgh. This was a fantastic multi course meal of authentic Chinese dishes. The whole list of items is below. This was an incredible experience for me as I got to learn a lot about Lunar New Year and the activities associated with the annual celebration. The OCA Pittsburgh is a civil rights advocacy and educational organization for the advancement of social, political and economic well being of Asian American and Pacific Islander decent. I had one of my most fun and delicious foodie dinners, thanks to @ken_cooksfood. I was invited to his private chef experience, where he prepares a multi course dinner in your kitchen. Chef Ken specializes in Asian Fusion menus that can be customized to your specific needs. The dinner was delicious, featuring ingredients I wouldn’t think to mix but worked to create a great umami flavor. It was not only a great meal, but amazing getting to watch Chef Ken work in the kitchen and talking with him about the ingredients and techniques. This is a great alternative to going to a restaurant for a special dinner. Learn more about the Chef Ken Private Chef Experience and other meal services on his website. We had a fantastic meal and a great time, thanks to Chef Ken.

I was invited to try KL Asian Cuisine (@ibowl777) in Squirrel Hill, and it was a fantastic meal. They are a new restaurant offering a little something that any palate can enjoy. They feature a variety of Chinese, Korean, Thai, and Malaysian cuisine. The chef shows off his talents and culinary knowledge across all those cultures. We enjoyed an incredible assortment of dishes from each of the styles of cuisine prepared.

One of my favorite burgers in Pittsburgh is the @pghsandwichsociety In-N-Aht Burger. This burger pays homage to a classic smash burger found at a chain restaurant out west. When I’m craving one, I know I can go to @strangerootsbeer and get a better version from Pittsburgh Sandwich Society.

Every winter, I eat so many fantastic meals at the @eatbig restaurants in Pittsburgh. My email gets flooded with their holiday offers of $15 off at all their restaurants, gift card bonuses, and my birthday free entrée. This year, I ate at @soba_pgh, @kaya_pgh, @elevenpgh, @casbahpgh, @altaviapgh and @altaviapizzeria. I use this as an opportunity to try some dishes I haven’t gotten before at these restaurants. I recommend to everyone sign up for their mailing lists. There is an option to get emails for all their restaurants or just Mad Mex. It’s worth getting all of them so you get all the discounts and offers.

I tried the hot food bar at Many More Asian Market

I tried the hot food bar at Many More Asian Market in the Strip District. This Asian grocery store has an incredible collection of fresh and packaged specialty items for sale, and lots of prepared foods. This was my first time in the store and it is unbelievable. I was in awe of all the products available. We did a mini Lunar New Year celebration, ordering several items from the hot bar. The portions are large and affordable. A group of 7 of us had this delicious feast for about 25 dollars a person. I’m already thinking about the next meal I’m going to get from Many More.

@jennyleeswirlbread and @yajagoff Podcast invited me and other food content creators to @flourpowerpittsburgh in Allison Park to celebrate the launch of Jenny Lee Swirl Bread’s new line of at home baking mixes. Flour Power is a cooking studio with classes for all ages. To make things interesting, we got to bake these mixes and compete against each other bake off style to win a donation to a charity of our choice. I was tasked with baking their soon to be released Tavern bread. I made a delicious, savory Pepperoni and Cheddar Tavern Beer Bread. I was baking for @oneday_toremember, a charity I support often. The other contestants got to bake using the Sweet Dough mix, Yellow Cake mix, chocolate chip cookie mix, and muffin mix. We baked everything on @usa_pan bakeware, which I’m now considering replacing all my baking sheets with these. Everyone tasted each baked good and voted for a winner. We took turns getting introduced, announcing what we baked and which charity we supported. We were also excited to find out every charity was going to get a donation. In the end, there was a tie with the brown butter chocolate chip cookies and the yellow cake cookies winning. This was such a great time and now I can say I’m a baker too!

I had an evening out in Sharpsburg with @foodismysavior_pgh, one of my OG Instagram friends. We've know each other almost 8 years now and it was great to get to catch up. First, we got savory meals at @thebrinery412. I got The 916 smash burger. I opted for a triple because I'm crazy like that. She got the The Graceland. Their fried chicken sandwiches are fire are so are the sauces. Second, we stopped in at @lovekatiedistilling for after dinner cocktails. This cute and inclusive distillery and cocktail bar produces spirits and makes fantastic cocktails.

I recently ate again at @fujiyaramenpgh in Shadyside. It was one of the many cold days in January, and I was in the mood for a warm bowl of ramen. It was restaurant week so we got to try a bunch of apps and dessert too. I always liked Fujiya Ramen and they are a great option for Japanese food in Pittsburgh.
