Alex Eats Too Much March 2026 Roundup

I originally started this post thinking March wasn’t that exciting. After typing out everything I did that was really cool, I realized I did a lot of cool stuff. I ate three really amazing dinners and many other great meals. I attended a few really great events. I was part of an unbelievable roundtable and participated in a panel discussion. I ended the month by getting out of town for a couple of days and then attending one of the year’s best events, Pittsburgh Pirates Media Day. If this is how I get to start Spring, I’m all for it.

I spent a lot of March also reflecting on what comes next for Alex Eats Too Much. It’s now been six months since I quit my job to do content creation and events full time. It’s definitely not going as expected. I’m getting lots of opportunities to do cool things…unpaid, which is awesome to an extent. I’m making really cool videos and blog posts, and getting ready to launch many things on YouTube and on my blog. Some of these have helped me keep down other expenses. I appreciate the paid things that have come my way. I’m still struggling to find more of them. I have a lot of exciting things coming in April.

Most Exciting New Dinner Experience: Okane Omakase

I was invited back to Okane Sushi in Downtown Pittsburgh to their new Okane Omakase on the second floor of the restaurant. They completely remodeled the space, giving it a more upscale vibe. There is a sushi counter and table seating, as well as the ability to have small private gatherings. I was also impressed by the large selection of Japanese whisky available. Okane Omakase has 16, 18, and 20 course omakase menus, with the 16 course currently starting under $100. I was able to preview the 16 course omakase and it was fantastic. It was an omakase experience that Pittsburgh desperately needed, especially downtown, with creative dishes and explorations in flavor and texture. I know I’ll be going back again to Okane Omakase to do this sushi omakase experience to have another great meal and so I can try out new courses.

Best New to Me Wing Night: Rogue BBQ

I was invited to check out the wings at Rogue BBQ in Homestead, which were some of the best and tastiest wings I have eaten recently. Currently, their wing night is on Wednesday evenings, and features both fried split wings and smoked whole wings. I ordered a whole bunch of different flavors of fried wings: cowboy butter buffalo, PB & J, garlic parm & bourbon BBQ. I also got to try the smoked whole wings. I was very impressed and need to go back to Rogue BBQ for more wings and to try some barbecue.

Best Dumpling Feast: Amazing Dumplings

I was invited back to Amazing Dumplings to start eating my way through their menu of handmade dumplings, hand-drawn noodles and other northern Chinese dishes. I was there in February for Lunar New Year. I knew I had to go back to try some of the regular menu. Everyone at Amazing Dumplings is the nicest and they really wanted me to just try so much of the food they are proud to serve. Some of my favorites were: Spicy Hot Oil Sesame Dumplings, Starry Van Gogh pork with lotus root dumplings, Hot oil beef wide noodles & Spicy Dry Fried Chicken.

Best Destination Dinner: TreeTops Restaurant at Polymath Park (and Wright at Polymath)

This dinner came as a surprise. I spent a couple of nights in the Laurel Highlands hosted by Go Laurel Highlands. A couple days before the trip they decided we should have dinner at TreeTops Restaurant and do the tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright homes at Polymath Park. Both of these were great experiences. The Wright at Polymath Park tour takes you through two Frank Lloyd Wright homes that were deconstructed, moved to Pennsylvania and reconstructed on the property. The dinner at TreeTops Restaurant was in the main restaurant. They are known for high end three course meals which include a couple of extra small bites. They are also known for the outdoors dining pods that look like treehouses where you eat outdoors. This was a great meal. The filet mignon and the buffalo blue cheese deviled eggs were my favorites.

Best Roundtable Discussion: Gov Shapiro Creator Roundtable

The opportunity I have received to get to ask Governor Shapiro questions and support his administration and reelection campaign has been incredible. I really believe in what he is trying to do for Pennsylvania by advancing our state’s industry and other causes. I was invited to a roundtable with other Pittsburgh creators to ask the governor questions about causes important to us. I asked a question about agriculture, food production and tariffs. I have so much content I will be sharing from this day as time continues.

Craziest Movie Night: New York Ninja at Row House Hollywood

I have been so happy since Row House Hollywood reopened. They have been showing the best movies. I’ve been a Row House Movie Club member for years and with this theater closer to my house, I’m taking more advantage of it now than ever. They have a 35-millimeter film projector and are showing some pretty great films with it. New York Ninja is a low budget film that was lost for years before being finished and released.

Most Interesting Concert: Foxy Shazam at Thunderbird Music Hall

Foxy Shazam is an interesting band. They were most recently featured as the title credits song on Peacemaker season 2. It was a high-intensity performance. My brother wanted to see them and I knew a few songs. They were great, but a little too much for me.

Craziest Rental House Getaway: turnovi rental in Hidden Valley

I spent the last weekend of March in the Laurel Highlands before speaking on a panel at the Laurel Highlands Spring Summit. Some of us were hosted at a giant vacation rental at Hidden Valley managed by turnovi. This was a 7 bedroom, 5 bathroom house with lots of living rooms and a game room. This was insane.  The house was beautiful and it would be a great space for a large group of friends or an extended family gathering.

Best Panel I Participated in This Month: Laurel Highlands Spring Summit

The Laurel Highlands Spring Summit is an event where Laurel Highlands members can learn from speakers how to better promote their businesses and network with other businesses in the area. I was asked to speak on a panel with other content creators about how businesses can work with content creators. I appreciated getting to share my experiences with others. I also really liked getting to hear the other speakers. I learned quite a bit that I didn’t know about marketing not related to social media.

Best Insane Example in Insane Eating: Pittsburgh Pirates Media Day

This is one of my favorite events I get to attend. The Pittsburgh Pirates invite reporters and content creators to learn about all the next things in PNC Park. This includes all the new food options. Definitely check out my video on the socials to see all the new food.

Everything Else in March

I went to the Three Rivers Outdoor Co. Chili Bowl chili cookoff. They had like 15 different people with chili to taste. It was a lot of fun. The chili was just ok. There were a couple of great ones. I might have to enter next year.

I spent an afternoon at Love, Katie Distilling. They were testing cocktails for the March menu. This was a lot of fun. I got to know Katie and Brian a little better. I learned about what it took to renovate the space into what it is today. I gave feedback on each of the cocktails. I repeatedly tasted some of the cocktails over and over to be sure they were really good.

I did the tour again at Liberty Pole Spirits. They have one of the best distillery tours in the area. They really explain their distilling methods. You see the rickhouse. They give you a bunch of tastings of the different whiskeys. I spent some extra time in their private collection.

I had dinner at Tako. I honestly forget how good it is there. The salsas, the guac and the tacos were all great.

I had a couple of happy hour drinks at Soba. The happy hour menu is limited, but I got a martini and actually enjoyed it. My favorite happy hour bite is the tuna nachos. I could eat those all the time.

I had dinner at Tocayo. The drowned burrito is actually really good there.

I had a meeting at Inner Groove Brewing and drank some great beers. I’ve got something in the works with them come May. I also got a smash burger from Quick-E Food Truck. It was pretty good.

I finally had dinner at Sea Monkey, the new bar and restaurant by Richard Dechantz group. The décor was incredible. The food and drinks were just ok. The drinks were good, but probably not my favorite since I don’t normally go for tiki style drinks. The food was good, but not anything I would go out of my way to eat. I’m a fan of all of the other Richard Dechantz restuarants. I just feel like this one still needs to work out some things.

I got a couple of beers at Dancing Gnome while it was sunny and 80 degrees…before it was rainy and 40 degrees.

I got lunch at Brick N Morter in Carnegie. It was pretty good. I got their Cuban sandwich. It was absolutely loaded. The two things that would have made it perfect are if the pulled pork had been drained a little more and if the sandwich had been pressed a little longer.

I went out to Cinderlands Warehouse to watch the first Pirates game of the season. They had a $1 wing special. I got Korean BBQ and Lemon Pepper Garlic Parm. I drank a bunch of beers. The Pirates lost.

I spent the morning at the National Aviary. I’m making a video for them to encourage visiting during the NFL Draft. I got to see the penguins, which are my favorite animals. I got to feed a lorikeet.

I went for a hike at Laurel Hill State Park near Somerset, PA. I hiked to Jones Mill Run Dam, which is such a cool photo spot.

I had dinner at Slopeside at Seven Springs. I was there on a Saturday, which was all you can eat crab leg night. The food was good but not amazing.

I grabbed a coffee and breakfast burrito at Silver Horse Coffee in Donegal. They feature Standing Wave Coffee Roasters, which is expanding all over the city of Pittsburgh. The breakfast burritos are misleading in size. They are flatter so they can be carried easily on the ski slopes in a coat pocket, but they are so full of meat, egg and cheese. Quite tasty too.
