I’m exhausted after this past month. April was so insanely busy for me. April was also so exciting with everything I got to do. NFL Draft weekend in Pittsburgh finally arrived. It was so much fun, filled with so many events, activities and photo ops. I got my photo with the Governor, again. The Pirates Home Opener is always a crazy day and a party in the city. I ate an amazing meal at one of the best new restaurants in the city. I also spent an afternoon eating at The Highline as the food scene got a major upgrade. This was also the first year I could actually attend the Kennywood media day. Most of all, this is the first month I’m starting to see a lot of growth in a long time. Thanks to the Pirates, Kennywood, Visit Pittsburgh and my content starting to get more engaging, more people are starting to find my pages all over. It’s exciting since I have a lot of really cool stuff still to come this year.
My Favorite Day of the Year: Pirates Home Opener
This is seriously just a full day party. I spent my day bouncing around North Shore before going into the game. I talked with so many great people throughout the day. Kelly from Star 100.7 interviewed me, but I have no clue if it aired. I made my way into the game for all the opening day festivities and team intros. I drank a lot of beer. Forgot to eat until the 8th inning. My hangover hit at around midnight. I woke up the next morning to do it all over again. The Pirates won both those games. The energy in PNC Park this year is crazy. I’m definitely planning on going to more games this year.

Best Meal I Ate in April: Titusz
I ate at Titusz, the new Austrian Hungarian restaurant in Lawrenceville. This was the first new Restaurant I have been excited about in a long time. I loved it. We ordered the whole menu. My favorites were the Langos fried potato bread topped with topfen soft cheese, goat gouda and herbs and the chicken paprikash, a classic Hungarian dish, which was an incredibly tender braised half chicken in a rich paprika sauce with spaetzle. I highly recommend making a reservation to check it out.

Best Amusement Park Media Day: Kennywood
This was my first time I was able to attend Kennywood media day. I was always working, and in the past they used to invite me like 2 days before. This year, Kennywood has new owners and lots of improvements. Lots of rides were getting fresh coats of paint. They had new benches and new food stands. I got to try five new exciting food items: Pulled Pork Potato Patch Fries, Maple Cinnamon Sweet Potato Fries, Irish Nachos, Classic Cheesesteak, and White Chocolate Sweet Potato Cupcake. I got to see Kenny Kangaroo again. I’ll probably be back at Kennywood for Bites & Pints.

Best Day of Beer, Tacos and Wrestling: Beers of the Burgh and Enjoy Wrestling present Tacomania Brawl at the Brew House
I spent an afternoon at Pittsburgh Brewing Company, the home of Iron City beer, for Beers of the Burgh and Enjoy Wrestling presents Tacomania Brawl at the Brew House. This is an incredible afternoon, combining beer, wrestling, and tacos. I got a Poolside and a Stout from Pittsburgh Brewing Co. I got barbacoa tacos from Let’s Taco food truck. I got a crunchwrap from Blue Sparrow. I saw members of Enjoy Wrestling in a brawl in front of me. There were a lot of tag team matches. I saw a wrestler get a beer smashed over his head. There was a battle royale. It’s a great time. And the next Tacomania has already been announced. Tacomania Super Fest is on 8/2/2026 at Southside Works!

Best Food Scene Glow Up: The Highline featuring Burghers Brewing and A Slice of New York Squared
There are big changes to the food landscape at The Highline in Pittsburgh South Shore. Burghers Brewing has moved down to the Beer Garden with a larger space. A favorite pizza of mine, A Slice of New York moved in along Carson St, serving Sicilian pizzas in A Slice of New York Squared. I spent an afternoon eating burgers and pizza and drinking beer. Burghers will be able to offer an expanded menu, including pizza and more of their beers. I stopped in there to have a few beers, an L-Ville Burger and some fried artichokes. A Slice of New York Squared will have great pizzas with sourdough crust and quality ingredients available for takeout or eating outside at The Highline. I got a piece of plain cheese and a piece of pepperoni. More pizza content is coming soon.

Saddest Restaurant Closing: Fat Heads Saloon
It was Last Call at Fat Head’s Saloon, and this meant it was time for one last headwich. If you haven’t heard, Pittsburgh institution Fat Head’s Saloon in Southside closed its doors April 26. They were doing a last call, giving people the opportunity to get a final meal and some merch. When I first moved to Pittsburgh, I frequented Fat Head’s often. I spent 3 years living in Southside, just around the corner, regularly ordering the giant headwich sandwiches. It’s a shame I didn’t get there more often in recent years because my Mark’s Mighty Fine Bovine Headwich I had for lunch was just as good as I remembered. It’s sad to see Fat Head’s go, but hopefully we’ll see them again someday.

Best Event with Governor Shapiro This Month: Visit PA presents Governor’s Tailgate
This was a great event bringing together content creators from Pittsburgh and across the state to kick off the NFL Draft. Visit PA told us about the great events in Pennsylvania like the Draft, MLB All Star Game, FIFA World Cup, UFC match, and everything to celebrate America 250. Pittsburgh Dad gave an intro to Pittsburgh history. We heard remarks from Gov Shapiro and Lt Gov Davis.

Best Event for a Good Cause: Taste of the Draft Benefitting GENYOUth
I was invited to start my NFL Draft week at Taste of the Draft, an event benefitting GENYOUth, organized by Taste of the NFL and hosted by PNC Bank. I was so grateful to be invited to this event. I learned a lot about GENYOUth from this event. They are a non-profit working to end student hunger, promote childhood physical activity and elevate student voices. This was an incredible event featuring food from over 20 Pittsburgh restaurants, live entertainment, remarks from prominent people, football related activities, and meet & greets with over 20 Steelers and NFL greats. Thank you so much to GENYOUth for including me in this incredible event.

Fastest Mascot in Pennsylvania: The Penn State Nittany Lion
During the draft weekend, I attended Visit PA Playmakers Presents the Great Pennsylvania Mascot Race. This put the Philadelphia Eagles Swoop, Pittsburgh Steelers Steely McBeam, Roc the Pitt Panther and the Penn State Nittany Lion in a 40 yard dash race. The Nittany Lion was the only one there in sneakers and won without a doubt. Punxsutawney Phil also made an appearance.

Best Anthropomorphic Pastry Sacrifice: Pop Tarts Sacrifice for the Fans
The Pop Tarts Sacrifice happened for the first time outside the Pop Tarts Bowl here in Pittsburgh! They sacrificed Protein Slamming Strawberry after it jumped off the toaster at the 2025 bowl game with dreams of going pro! This was ridiculous. The pop tart gets lowered into the giant toaster while pyrotechnics are going off. Then a giant pop tart pops out the bottom.

Best Once in a Lifetime Event (probably): NFL Draft in Pittsburgh
This was such an unbelievable week. Over 800,000 people attended the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. There was so much to do. The player draft was just a small part of it. There were concerts. There were activities created by sponsors. There was the whole Steelers Country with giant Super Bowl ring replicas, the 70s style Pittsburgh basement, the Steelers bar and all 6 Steelers Lombardi Trophies on display. I spent the 3 days running around between Point State Park and North Shore collecting content to post in collaboration with Visit Pittsburgh. I focused mostly on food and non-football events. I made sure to eat only at booths that were run by local Pittsburgh restaurants. I had some great meals and definitely need to return to some of those vendors for a feature video on them. I’m still working on going through all my content and I’ll update when all done.
